Meet the Artist

My art practice serves as a playful counterpoint to the darker images and ideas that bombard us through mass culture. I utilize irony and humor to evoke a sense of parody in my work. As an artist, I am interested in the manipulation of images from everyday life and popular culture, and I explore how this visual information can be redirected to give life to my creations.

Through portraiture and caricature, I create comically irreverent images inspired by my jumbled youth. I draw from pop culture, mass media, religious iconography, and everyday observations, transforming them into high-relief sculptures, minimalist interventions, and absurd juxtapositions that challenge the grandiosity of these larger-than-life representations. By examining my own history, I question the authenticity of past memories and the invincibility of adulthood. Instead, I aim to create a complex iconography that lends an unexpected relevance to my sculptures and paintings.

The images I select allow for immediate connections with my viewers, inviting them to place their own associations within the work. I strive to highlight the intricacies of everyday life, encouraging us to relate to one another while stirring a sense of the odd or unique that resides within us. At the core of my work are the stories of the characters I explore, which act as placeholders for a time that can no longer be reached—a time characterized by playfulness and naïveté in our perceptions of the world.
